The Summer Season Is Here

Last week saw the end of season “Sunday Funday” and it certainly lived up to its name. After raining all morning the skies cleared just in time for an epic afternoon of bicycle polo fun and frolics. There were several “Throw-Ins” and a few rounds of  “Bottom Bracket”, “Upsy Downsy”, “Knife Fight” and possibly the most confusing games of “Tap Out” ever.

Although it was a “Funday” it did get a bit physical at times. Kol “The Statsman” and Adam “The Workaholic” had a minor coming together against the wall which was soon resolved with some gentlemanly apologies form both parties. Confused by the lack of interest in their actions from the other players they turned round to find Dean “Double Dean” Dent and Richard “My Brakes Work” Franks tangled in a “clusterf**k” of bikes and bodies. It seemed to take an age to release them from their embrace but they both survived apart from Richard leaking blood from his elbow.

As agreed the Polo gods did a good job of holding off the rain and even the Sun gods got in on the act and turned heat up on the big orange thing in the sky up to full for the afternoon. This did make a lot of the players leak a bit though. The weather stayed fine until exactly 5:30 giving the players enough time to get home or to their favourite drinking establishment. At 5:30 all the water in the whole world fell from the sky.

All in all it was a very fun day indeed.

This week sees the start of the Summer Season. The “One And Only” Mr Roger won the Spring League and Nick “The Shotuy One” was the #1 ranked player. Expect new challengers for the top spots this season. After only his first season Richard has shown the potential to be a contender. Dean “Double Dean” Dent is always in the mix especially when he stops spinning in circles and gets on with the game. If “Guiness Dave” learns how “not” to fall off he could be up there with the best. The ever improving PC Paul is also a threat to the top players and even “Young Jack” stands a very good chance if he  just concentrates and doesn’t have a nap during the games.

It’s going to be an exciting season so BRING ON THE POLO!

IT'S A FUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After promising to be lacklustre turnout what with Mr Dolphin and Mr Roger being on the heart of the wolds sportive, last week saw the return of two things. Firstly Andy “Gandhi” from that there York with his fashionable hair cut and secondly the elusive orange thing in the sky. Both were welcomed with open arms and contributed to what turned out to be a great session.

Right off the bat Andy “Gandhi”  got back to his usual tricks and started to fall off (ripping his sisters jeans) but considering he had a very long break played very well indeed. Kol “the statsman” tried his hand at some extremely long range shots, Young Jack played an extremely cool calm and collected set of Games (he may have actually been asleep for most of it) and Richard “whipper” Franks had another extraordinarily good session considering his short career.

Mr Roger even turned up for some refereeing action laying down the law, mocking the players and getting in the way - a lot. All in all it has to be said, it was an extremely enjoyable session.

The overall victory for the day and indeed the top goal scoring honours went to a beard with a man called Adam attached. To be honest he smashed it. Nobody even came close. A top notch session indeed

Last week was the last session of the Spring Season and the “One and Only” Mr Roger’s absence did not stop him taking the top spot winning by 9 points. Nick “The Shouty” held on to second place and Kol “The Statsman” scraped into third spot. A well fought season. Well done everyone.

Today we having a rest from the league and are hosting a ........... so come on down and have a go.

All to Play For

What an excellent session it was last week. We avoided the rain, had some great games and didn’t kill or maim anyone. A fun day indeed.

Dean kindly popped down to assist and gave an excellent “Double Dean” refereeing performance. With constant and accurate weather forecasts, extremely audible time keeping and not getting in the way too much he kept the games running smoothly.
Much to Kol “The Statsman” frustration and amusement Dean decided to call “Shuffle” every time Kol touched the ball. In a statement Kol said “It was funny the first 4,000,000 times but after that it started getting a bit annoying.”

Richard “A Goal A Game” Franks put in an excellent performance scoring a goal in every game. He even got 2 in one game. Well done Richard. “Guiness” Dave (not distracted at all by locking people in a cellar or something like that) put in an excellent performance to get second spot on the day only losing out to Kol on goal difference.

Playing only his third session of the season Young Jack “The River Horse” put in a great performance to claim 3rd spot. Well done young man. I really shouldn’t mention PC Paul’s performance but although he played well throughout the session he still managed to come last. Winning only one game. Must try harder Paul.

Today it the last session of the Spring Season. With 104 points has Mr Roger “The One And Only” done enough to stay top of the table? He has been formally excused from today’s carnage and so has his closest rival Nick “The Shouty One” on 95 points so its all down to Kol on 77 points to try and catch them. The #1 ranking is also up for grabs. Nick is currently #1 on 65.97% but a good performance by Dean 60.22% or Kol  62.60% could see him drop in the ranking.

It’s all to play for and it’s always fun so come on down and lets play polo.

WET, WINDY AND WORTH IT!

The weather forecast for last weeks session was abysmal and just for once the forecasters were right. When warned about the “biblical” weather forecast the “One and Only” Mr Roger just shrugged and said “Its only a bit of weather...” and he was right in a way. It was “only a bit of weather” but it was most definitely one of the worst bits of weather. As predicted heavy winds and torrential rain descended on the court and very quickly stopped play.

Before the monsoon struck five brave or possibly foolhardy players turned up for some 2 on 2 action. They got through seven games before calling it a day and retiring to the pub for the remainder of the afternoon.

Mr Roger was on form and scored most of the goals and would have been on target for beating Kol “The Statsman’s” record of 22 goals in a session. In an official statement to the press Adam “The Workaholic” said “It was wet, it was windy and Mr Roger scored all the goals.......All of them”.

PC Paul pulled off a remarkable block on Nick that allowed Mr Roger to score yet again, and in the process made Nick “The Shouty One” fall about laughing at the genius of PC Paul’s stopping ability.  IT was a good block.

Apart from the weather it was another good session and despite scoring nearly all the goals Mr Roger only managed second place beaten on bonus point by Nick “The Shouty One”.
Nick retains his #1 ranking and Mr Roger is hanging on at the top of the table. With only 2 sessions left of the Spring Season everything is still up for grabs.

The weather forecast for today looks a lot better so BRING ON THE POLO!

What an Eggcellent Day!

Oh we did have fun yesterday at East Park. The sun came out, we had lots of spectators and had a jolly good day indeed. Although the court had a very smooth playing surface it was possibly the windiest court we have ever played on.

We were joined by lots of “newbies” of varying ages. The “youngs” picked it up really quickly and appeared to have no fear. Luckily we didn’t break too many of them. All in all it was a very good day.

We learnt a few things on the day too. We learnt that you shouldn’t every ride Richard’s bike as it has the meanest front brake ever and will attempt to throw you off and possibly kill or maim you. Dean “Double Dean” Dent also learnt that whilst spinning 360 degrees on you back wheel it is a good idea to stay on your bike.

Today we are back on our regular court so Bring on the Polo!
