Newbies and No Brakes

Two newbies joined us last week. Mike and Andy put on a great show. Both riding borrowed bikes and discovering the need for a good brake. After being set up in front of  an open goal the excitement of his chance to get his first goal was too much for Andy. Adrenalin rushed through his body as he took his shot, his mallet flew out of his hand hitting Kol in the chest and in the panic he forgot to brake and ended up riding straight through the goal. Goal spotter at the time, Mr Roger said “You should have seen his face. It was a look of sheer panic...I wish I’d had my camera. A valiant effort Andy.
Mike riding Dean’s Bike discovered that, although Dean’s bike is fixed wheel, you still need a good brake. Unfortunately Dean’s Bike’s brake stopped functioning altogether on the day. This saw Mike do a spectacular exit from the court. Missing the goal posts and walls and heading straight out of the court eventually stopping half way down the street. A good show Mike and some good goals. Well done.

Kol got his first win of the season but this was overshadowed by Young Jack’s spectacular performance. Jack was relentless and managed to secure his highest finish of the season coming in 2nd place. Well done Jack. Unfortunately Jack will not be playing today due to injuries caused by a self inflicted bicycle incident. You should know by now Jack that you can’t go round corners that fast without clipping a pedal. In the spirit of the game Jack will be reffing for us this week. Good show Young Man.

Nick’s away for 2 weeks so its time for us all to try and catch him at the top of the table. A few good results over the next couple of weeks for Big Red could see Big Red and Nick in a final session showdown.

Mix It Up Sunday 1st September 2013

What a great session. A couple of newbies and a lot of fun. Well done Jack for getting 2nd. You'll soon be number 1.

Nobody Puts Mr Roger in a Corner

Possibly the most comical event of last Sunday’s session was Mr Roger’s foot down. Stuck in a corner with all the play at the other end of the court, Mr Roger tried to hop his way out. After what seemed like 5 minutes the inevitable happened. A foot down. Mr Roger being the gentleman he is refrained from swearing and continued with the game. An excellent effort Mr Roger sir!

Nick did it again. Coming first in the session but only just. Today sees Nick play his last session before taking a 2 week holiday. A 39 point lead may not be enough to keep him at the top of the table. Time for Big Red to take advantage and put in some more good performances. With only 5 sessions left in the season a few good wins could see him challenging for the top spot. It could all come down to the last session of the season.

Dean “Double Dean” Dent put in an excellent performance. After missing 3 sessions he returned last Sunday to take an impressive second place. Well done Dean. Rumours are that, after his crushing midweek defeat at the ECB Rollapaluza event, he will be sulking today and may not even turn up.

Young Jack put in another strong performance with some great goals. Jack is getting better every week and will soon be wiping the floor with us “olds”. Well done Jack.

In other news, Kol tries hard.

Mix It Up Sunday 25th August 2013

A very good session today. A lot of 2v2 action and some really good moves.

Get Back in the Saddle

Its only been 2 weeks since we last played and only one session missed but it seems like an age. Can’t wait to get back in the saddle today.

The last time we played there were only 5 players so we had a bit of 2 on 2. A most enjoyable hot day but very tiring.  For the first hour and a half Young Jack was on fire but as tiredness set in he started drifting off. A bit more stamina and concentration young man and you could have easily beaten Kol into 3rd place.

After a disastrous result the previous week, coming last out of 9, Nick came back strong and didn’t lose a single game. Big red was the surprise of the day. After moving and entire house into a skip the previous day, he turned up very tired, with backache and not a lot of motivation. He still managed to put in a great performance and came in second.

I can't think of anything else to write so here is a picture of a skip for Big Red....

11th August 2013 Mix It Up

Another great session today. Only a few players so a bit of 2 on 2 action. Nick has gone from finishing in last place last week to a clear 1st this week. Well done everyone

Tight at the Top

Lots to talk about from last week’s session. Adam came top closely followed by Big Red. Only 2 points separating them on the day. It looks like Adam’s got his mojo back and Big Red continues his run of good form.

Dean’s bike had a great session. Ridden by Mark it came in an impressive 3rd position. The best result for Dean’s bike since the start of the season. It just goes to show that its not the bike but the rider that makes the difference. Well done Mark, only your second session at bike polo and another good showing with some cracking goals and great moves.

Young Jack was on fire last week. That wasn’t because we had set fire to him or he had been playing with matches. He actually played very well. For at least three quarters of the session that is. Jack has the attention span of a goldfish. Once round the polo court etc... Come on Jack, you’re improving every week. Lets see another good performance from you today.

Bryan had a good session too. I can’t remember seeing him falling off at all. There was a lot of shouting of “Foot Down” but no I don’t think I saw him fall off.

Mr Roger and Young Mr Roger (aka Luke) both put in a fine performance. Young Luke made his first appearance in the summer league last week. A bike polo regular, Luke has missed most of the season due to that there education stuff. Exams and whatever. He soon got back into it though and showed put in a very good performance.

Looks like there are only two players I have not mentioned yet. Saving the best to last. Kol and Nick came in 8th and 9th place. Only 9 people played so that means that Nick came last and Kol came second to last. Can you believe it. I spent two hours re-inputting the results into the spreadsheet and double checking all the formulas but still I ended up with the same result. A disastrous result for Nick whose ranking drops from 1st to 3rd. Kol dropped from 3rd to 7th. Good news for Big Red who moves up into the #1 ranking spot.

The top of the league has got interesting too. Nick is still top on 117 points but Big Red is close behind on 115 points. Another good session from Big Red today could see him top in both the league and the ranking.

ECB 3rd Anniversary Celebrations - Rollapaluza

This is going to be a great night. Rollapaluza at Pave

Mix It Up Sunday 4th August

What a great session. 9 players and a lot of fun. Adam took top spot closely followed by Big Red. Newbies to the Summer League made a good impression Mark (riding Dean's bike) came an impressive 3rd and Young Luke came in 6th. Kol and NIck had a disastrous day coming in 8th and 9th place. Great fun was had by all. Well done everyone.

Next Goal Wins

After a friendly knockabout last week we decided to play a bit of  2 on 2.  After several great games we thought it would be a great idea to have just “one more game” due to the weather was looking a bit dodgy.

As the game progressed we felt a few drops of rain. Dean, in an attempt to be sensible, suggested that the “next goal wins”. Almost as soon as he had uttered those fateful words the skies opened and the rain fell.

It wasn’t just “a bit of rain” or “a shower” or even “ lot of rain”. It was ALL of the rain. It was as if someone had picked up the North Sea and dropped it on us. After a mad scramble to pack away the goals we found temporary shelter but it was too late.

The weather forecast this week is good. No rain is what it says. Lets see what happens.

Tight at the Top

Last weeks session was just a friendly, so no changes in the league table. This week normal service is resumed and it is time to get some more wins under our belts. I feel a top of the table battle happening today with Big Red and Nick fighting for that #1 spot.

Dean “Double Dean” Dent is formally excused as he is going on a well earned holiday. Have a good one “dear friend”.
